Fishery report week ending 6th October

Fish Report-Sweethope Loughs September 30th –October 6th 2013

Autumn is well advanced and as the water cools and the wind increases fish are starting to gravitate towards the bottom. Having said that there have still been catches of fine fish on dry patterns.
The most successful fly this week has been the buzzer but the best fish of the week (a 12lb 8oz rainbow, caught by Mike McDonnell of Ponteland on a Dawson’s Olive and a 12lb rainbow, caught by Ray Wood of West Woodburn on a yellow dancer) were both caught on lures.
In all we have been visited by 58 rods who caught 97 rainbow, 3blue and 2 brown trout, 77 were returned safely.
Successful fly patterns have been: bibio, orange fritz, okey dokey buzzer, buzzer, dawson’s olive, yellow dancer, cdc and daddy .
