Re: SUNBURST EGG YARN
I bought myself some of that egg yarn many years ago from rutland angling supplies its been the best fly tying material ive bought because i use it for seal fur substitute.
Mine isnt the colour shown.
Mine is flou red and its used for my Bibios and the Peter-Ross.
Over the years ive give lengths of it away and still have plenty.
Never caught much on them eggs buti suppose it cos i am a purist and dont have the confidence in eggs.lol

I have caught carp at West house on egg flies of different colours .. they used to like green or pink ones before Dave put the dye in the lakes

Re: SUNBURST EGG YARN
dave puts the dye in to stop weed growth, because it stops light penetrating, you don't get weed growing deep on the bottom. its a very dark blue dye

New one to me. You never to old to learn. Wonder how many other ponds use the dye in the area.

only known westhouse to use it so far, its better than putting chemicals in the water because you can only do a 3rd of water at a time or cutting it constantly

An angler i know said he used to like stalking the fish at Westhouse.
Doesnt the dye affect the spotting of fish? .

Re: SUNBURST EGG YARN
It does Peter. You can sttill see the fish, but nowhere near to the extent if it wasnt died.
I didnt like it at first, but the fish dont seem to be affected, and it probably gives them some decent overhead protection from birds aswell?
Its certainly not for the purists, thats for sure - but if it means i can wet a line and doesnt hurt the fish, i think its a minor grievance to put up with

Re: SUNBURST EGG YARN
I fish the Stillington Beck that runs alongside Westhouse and that is chocked with weed from the farmers nitrates.
As a schoolboy we swam in the beck and it was deeper and less chocked.
I ve argued with farmers about this in the pub and they say its got nothing to do with it but its been proven.
The beck looks great in Winter but now with heat in the ground its well overgrown.

Re: SUNBURST EGG YARN
the beck running out of the back of westhouse wasn't usually that full of water but since dave built mill lake and it leaks a lot of water into it. seems like it gets water now..
don't think dye would get into beck tho
