Sweethope Fishery Report 14th June 2015
A busy week at Sweethope which has seen consistently good catches and fine weather. Trout have been taken from the top of the water and from just under the surface on dries and wets on both lakes. The quality of the fish has been remarked upon by many anglers who have had a fight on their hands. As many fish have been lost as have been brought to the net.
In a new innovation 7 students from Kenton School visited on Tuesday and were given an introduction to angling by Richard Wood. It was a very successful day and the students were a credit to their school and welcome to return at any time.
The best fish of the week was a 4lb Rainbow trout, caught in the lower lake by Jim Lumsden and performance of the week must go to Nick Dales who brought 25 rainbow and 5 blue trout to the net on Friday.
We hosted a loch style boat competition for the Ashington Kingfishers on Saturday which was a great success. 19 anglers attended and the biggest fish was caught by Ian R. Fairgreave, a rainbow weighing 1.74 kg. The competition was won by Keith Row with a bag of 8 fish weighing 8.82kg. Second was Ian S. Fairgreave with a bag of 8 fish weighing 8.45 kg. and third was Steven Taylor with a bag of 8 fish weighing 8.43kg. The total number of fish brought to the net was 107, giving the club a rod average of 5.63.
Statistics:
Fish brought to the net: 371 rainbows, 52 blues, 14 browns
Fish returned : 395
Visiting Rods: 90
Successful fly patterns: Shipman’s buzzer, Kate McClaren, hare’s ear, hoppers, buzzers, damsels, Peter Ross, Clan Chief, bibio, daddies, Black Pennel, Diawl Bach.
