Sweethope Fishing Report May 26th 2014
Sweethope has been fishing well this week, most days have been overcast and fish have been caught on dry flies as well as wets and nymphs. Some days there has been such a big hatch that the fish have been spoilt for choice and it has been hard work trying to attract them to artificial flies.
Bright sunshine and strong wind mid week made conditions difficult but Sweethope anglers were up to the challenge.
The highlight of the week was Sunday when we were visited by “Hoy & Hope” from Ashington and the Wark Fishing Club. Both clubs had an enjoyable day’s fishing and the respective winners were Cecil Douglas from “Hoy and Hope” and Eric Blair from Wark.
Biggest fish of the week was caught by Cecil Douglas of the “Hoy & Hope” and weighed in at 5lb 2oz.
All together we were visited by 92 rods this week and the total take was 263 rainbow, 20 blue and 4 brown trout. Of these 202 fish were returned safely to the water.
Successful fly patterns: Hawthorn fly, black nomad, buzzers, Dawson’s Olive, black spider, diawl bach, Clan Chief, Montana, Olive Fritz, Klinkhammer, Tequila Blob, Kate McClaren and Daddy Longlegs.
