Whinney 05/10/13
I have been looking forward to going back to Whinney all week. I have not been there since the last site day we had there. Paul could not make it due to the raging sickness bug so Stu, Darren and Eric picked me up at 7. After a pit stop at Maccy Ds we arrived at whinney at 8,30 to find Andy and his mates and Seddo already setup. We had some catching up to do
We had been warned by Ted that Whinney had had a hard summer and you could tell by the number of marked fish in the shallows. This is something that all small fisheries have had to cope with this summer. I'm sure Ted will get the stocks back up to top levels soon. I cull would be a good idea.
I started at the Dam end with Eric and had no luck. I could see Andy and the boys doing well on the other side so I made my way around fishing a few pegs on the way. I was having fallows but no takes I ended up at the Bottom peg next to the in let and thats when the fun started. there were a few fish rising so I changed to a black shipmans and I finally got my blank off.
I manged 7 from that peg before we went for a bite to eat all on the shipmans. Either off the top or twitched back after a rise.
After food and a bit crack with the lads, well most of the lads as Eric wanted to fish on in his words to catch a F.....ing fish!!!, I fished around the lake but found the fish seemed to be down the right hand bank. There was a hatch of sedge so I changed to a ginked up sedge and skipped it across the surface. It was great fun. I ended the day with 11 fish to the net with countless dropped fish and missed takes. I'll let the lads tell you how they got on.

Was a superb day,not only the fishing but the craic.Lunchtime was class,i had tears running down my cheeks with laughing!!As for the the fishing, well what a day.Ricky and myself had a ball and it was the quickest 6 hours fishing i`ve had this year.Yeah there are some damaged fish but still plenty of fighting fit fish.We had some awesome sport on the surface in the afternoon with loads of chases to the dries or blobs ripped across the top.Hotspot for the day was down in the corner, stuffed with fish and they did`nt half like what was under my bung!!Worms were doing well for Ricky as was his Bushy dry.We both had acouple of nice fish around the 5-6lb mark.Cheers guys for a cracking day out!!!

Well like Daz I'd looked forward to this trip for ages as it was going to be my first ever visit. The day got off to a good start with some good craic on the journey up,( unfortunately without Paul who wasn't well ! ) and was even better when we arrived and I saw what a lovely spot Whinney is. Andy,Ricky and Seddo were already there so we tackled up and made our way down to the lake, I started with a bloodworm, changing to a hares Ear, black and green minky, daddy, muddler, buzzer and a few more flies getting no interest in any of them, the other lads were catching so the pressure was on to join them ! Daz had been doing well in the corner on the far side, so when he and Darren headed up for some bait I sneaked over to see if I could get some action, forget the food, there were fish to catch I had the minky on again and had a couple of pulls which was encouraging, but no hook ups The lads came back down and I still hadn't caught, and to make it worse Daz started catching again, but then he saved the day by giving me a black shipmans like the one that he had been getting his fish on. Success ! after only a few casts I had my first fish to the net, I missed a few more, but eventually changed fly again and caught no 2 on an olive damsel, and that was where my action ended, with most of the other lads into double figures I was well behind, but I will definitely be back to Whinney again, a lovely fishery.

Great to meet some of you again. I've not been on here much lately but the site days seem really good. Te craik at lunch was good. Nobody was afraid to share what was catching. Caught my first fish off my red buzzer tied on red hooks with a bit of glistery flashy stuff tied in. Looking forward to next weeks Eye Water competition at whinney. Great day. Thanks.

Great report guys, I must have a trip there sometime.
I was told that the fish there have a reputation of fighting very hard......don't know how true this is but it looks like a bonny place to fish all the same.
Regards Ian.
