I say every year i will try for a mackeral but to tell the truth i dont like eating them.
The heat doesnt go down well with me either.
Does anyone fish Hendon Promanade for mackeral i like the area for winter cod.

I found a spot the other night were I caught three in no more than 4ft of water and about 10ft from my feet.
Ate them last night- wonderful!
So, with big tides at the weekend I will be on a 'dawn raid' with the fly rod.

Are you getting your fish locally Blacknat. There seems to be plenty around the Whitby area. With a fly rod you would have to find a less crowded spot i would think some dont realise there is a hook on the end of the line.
High tides about midnight. I would like to try for the sea-trout . Ive seen sea-trout leap at Blackhall rocks whenm we have had the beach rods in the water.

No crowds where I go...plenty of room for a fly rod- Get over the theory you need piers and deep water- all you need is FEED and the mackerel (and coalies, pollock and sea trout) will folllow.
You know those 'bait balls' you watch on nature programs?- They happen locally- sometimes on a smaller scale though.
If you don't go out you never see it- if you do its a matter of waiting and watching.
