A FAIR PRICE Empty A FAIR PRICE

Post by lee cartmail Sat Jun 22, 2013 4:25 pm

BEEN ASKED BY A FEW LADS WHO I KNOW TO SAY HELLO TO AT LOCKWOOD & WESTHOUSE TO TIE THEM FLIES (NOT MATES)
ONE LAD WANTS A LOT OF INVICTAS IN SILVER,GOLD,PEARL,
ANOTHER WANTS BEETLES,BLOBS, LURES
ANOTHER WANTS BUZZERS
I DONT BELIEVE IN MATES RATES BECOUSE MY MATES KNOW I WILL GIVE THEM THE ODD FEW FLIES, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO EXPLAIN IT CAN TAKE 10 MINS TO TIE AN INVICTA AND I ONLY BUY QUALITY MATERIALS,
SO WHATS A FAIR PRICE FOR A FLY I DID REFUSE TO TIE LURES AS I HAVE NO INTEREST IN THEM SO PROBABLY NOT TAKE A GREAT DEAL OF PRIDE

Yep 50-75 for standard fly is about right , any thing that takes 10-15 mins usually a bit dearer max £1
The cheapest  ive seen in tackle shops are 65p
Look on Jim's site and you can get a good idea of the prices or megafies

Ive sold flies in the past because i was desperate for money.
When i am ok financtionally ive made flies and happily gave them to anybody who i can help.
My flies will never win a comp but most people have said they catch fish on them so i am happy.
The last lot of material i got was worth a small fortune i would have insulted the lad who kindly gave me it because he wanted it to go to a good home.
Hooks are the main cost with me.
I run out of wet  hooks one year and so i started useing the longshank reservoir hooks which i had hundreds of and thankfully i found they are great hookers of sea-trout for me.Very Happy

I was asked to tie some buzzers for a friend of a friend and charged them £10 for 20 buzzers.  Tell them the price first Lee and if they complain then dont do them.  Your never going to get rich selling flies but as long as your not out of pocket is the main thing.

I've seen your flies lee and they look a bit on the rough side, I'll give you a fiver for whole lot....lol

Nah mate being serious I tie for a few lads up the local social club, and I never accept any money for them because I've known the guys for years and it would'nt feel rite taking money, but they will always leave a few beers behind the bar for me which is ok with me, but you've got to name a price before you tie them, the cost of the materials and time...

Lee, I think it is only fair to your potential customers that all of your wares have been thoroughly road tested before you start taking their well earned cash from them....To this end I would be more than happy to volunteer to be your customer satisfaction representative...I feel it is only fair on my part to not charge you for this service initially.... Please drop off my case of samples at your earliest convenience, and I will start work immediately.

dAVE hi dave  to be honest I tried my hardest to say no your in a no win situation when tying lads flies if lads catch every one wants them and if they don't the flies are $hit so I said £10 per dozen collected at lockwood Friday tea time or westhouse sat tea time money up front and left it at that. my fly boxes are open for mates to dip in and help them selves , 85p is cheap for a muddler, I tied noel some small dries klinks gnats about a dozen on 18 hook fooking hard work I can tell you lol

Last fellow i tied some flies for supplied the hooks which in my opinion were too small.
Well I managed to cram the material on the hooks but they didnt look right.
When i give him the finished flies he had the cheek to tell me he had bought them cheaply in the course fishing sale.
That fellow doesnt ask me to do anything for him anymore.
And he is loaded.

Written by Dylan in 1962, and since then it has been one of the most covered songs in History.
