Black Gnat
AKA George from Guisborough.
Fish Lockwood, Scaling, Esk, Tees, Wear, Till, Cow Green, Teifi, Dovey, Tal Y Lyn for 'truttas' and 'salmos'.
Cast a fly in the salt between Saltburn and Whitby with mixed results and shore fish a few Yorkshire marks as well as places in Northumberland like Craster, Seashouses etc.
Also boat fish out of Hartlepool and Whitby.
Occasionally try for predatory coarse fish too.
Must admit that the small stillwaters aren't my first choice- but when work dictates my fishing hours then they fulfill their purpose.

Re: Black Gnat
Thanks all- just been invited for a spot on 'Runnymere' by a business associate in North Yorkshire.
Its a little syndicate water on the North Yorks moors between Whitby and Goathland so its time to sling the gear in the car...along with a flask, shovel and fully charged phone!
Better than the telly!
(It is very sheltered!!! )

Thanks Jedi...nice part of the world you live in too. I have been known to cast the odd '6oz buzzer' into the salt there.

Hi Black Gnat
I've always wanted to try salt water fly fishing. You'll have to give us some tips.
I'm going to give it a go at alanby for bass. I'm told it great sport in the summer.

Hi Daz
First- pick your mark. It helps if you know it well for safety reasons. I mainly fish rocky marks with a good bit of tidal movement as it equates to food.
Coalies are very willing fish to start you off and will happily take a Clouser or large 'Nobbler' type lure.
As for bass- don't be afraid of very shallow water. I have had them in less than welly depth- especially in low light conditions.
As for flies- my sea trout surface lures have accounted for a couple and clousers, streamers etc will work but my top 'pattern' is an Eddystone Eel of about 1.5 inch long cast on a WF8. I have tried more mobile patterns but the bass love it- especially at dawn.
Find somewhere where there is rock and sand with gulleys and runs that fill with the tide and try it out- you will be surprised how thin water you can catch in.
It does take homework but in the last three years I've had bass, sea trout, coalfish, pollock and mackerel on the fly rod.
Very rewarding.
This years targets are pollock of 5lb+ on the fly (probably from a small boat though) and bass on a 5 weight.
