rook nesting

well i know there not the strongest of the crow family but has this winter kicked the crpp out of them weve ahd a rookery just down the road from me well as long as i can remember as i drive by every day ive noticed sadly from the normal 40/60 nests maybe more we only have a dozen if where lucky and few on other side same at burnofield normaly full the trees hardly any yet in sunniside they have two wee trees and there numbers seem ok people dont tink about these poor birds they die very easy in winter time and takes them months to get enought to raise just two chicks in the summer months when the chicks well if you could say fly we normaly get them left on the lawns of perants till they come back with bits of feed no there not the best looking birds or there call is noisey but hope this isnt another bird to gisserpear locally nest time your out try spotting a sparrow i seen a few starlings yesterday was like winning the lottery there that scarce now aswell ive never nested for realy ywo years now cant remember last time i seen a tree sparrow yet the like of tits and other birds are doing well ive seen medow pipits and sky larks up derwent also pair of ospreys so they have to be nesting within 30 miles buzards another bird you never seen up there yet there common now the curlews are nesting in there normal place i havnt seen the ouster catchers trying o take you away from where they nest in the rocks at henrys wood yet as or black birds mine in my shed has now finished her nest but no eggs yet very late i had a swollow nest in my garage two years ago raining three yet they never came back last year or did and as like a lot of others sadly died when we got hit with a very cold spell late april after a very warm spring i know most bird calls another bird i havnt seen much of is the very aggresive robin thats always darting about we all fish and enjoy the wold life but do you take notice o the wild life when your out i spend hrs watching and lisning up the derwent the stoats weazels darting all around about now yes tc i know you have a photo of one pulling the pee out of me lol out of all the wild life my fav is the quite common hair up there ive shot many a rabbit yet never wanted to shoot a hair ive seen them the female that is size of dogs up there there gorgous and the simple hedgehog i often stop the bus and lift them of the road pitty some of the kids driving these days dont see it that way yes iv sen them go accross th road to squash them brakes m up that yes at heart i am a big sot and we now have vermin friendly mice traps hmm my mrs idea that mind next time your fishing just take notice for say thirty mins when your having a brake and see how many differant birds and animals you see you might get a big surprise or take notice of the things you dont see now thats more worring

Well Dave
I had not noticed the bird decline but you appear to be right .
There's no where near as many types as usual around here .
They may be just nesting later because of the weather .
Oh hold on Robin in the garden , couple of blue tits and yep a wren
First time this year . Mind no spuggys yet , or starlings .

lucky you for a robin as for tits well there all over the place around here som bonny ones at that they often caych my eye

I have been looking for Buzzards over the last month and have seen the odd one but non in any great numbers like I saw a month ago in that area, then they were all over in groups, There are Skylark, Curlews, Oyster Catchers in some of the fields near the farm and I have heard the Owls but not seen em yet this year, Today on Lead Road leads to the crossroads on A68 from Wheelbirks ice cream parlor. might be a bit far over for Dave, Saw a Peacock right next to the road, a Jay flew across road, not more than 10 feet in front of us, loads of crows jackdaws at Langley at home we have loads of Sparrows, Blackbirds, Thrushes, Robins, Tits, Woodpeckers, Tree Creepers, etc.
