Grab a Grand Comp at Tweeddale
Just to advise that the March heat is nearly full, Im happy to see a few of my friends and members of the forum are in the April heat. We are still taking names for heats as there is one a month upto August 2013 will the final in September. Its now being nick named The Grab A Grand comp because its £1000 cash to the winner with some excellent runners up prizes. We are also pleased to advise a well known tackle supplier is also now involved. Anglers can fish more than one heat if required. Log onto [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for all upto date info.
heat 1 april 27th
Fished the heat at tweeddale today,it was a wee bit on the wild side! Not the best of peg draws but thats just your luck!First peg nowt, not a touch.Second peg got a couple, third peg got another couple and dropped two at the net, plenty of pulls as well.Fourth peg another 2 in the net and more dropped as well, the wind was a nightmare.6 fish by eleven o`clock.Last two pegs before lunch not so clever, fish on and off at both pegs but nowt in the net!
I think at lunch there was a lad had 14 from what i heard and few were on 10.First peg after lunch put another 1 in the net and dropped a nice blue.Next two pegs were blank,by now some folk were chucking it or stopping fishing early on pegs and sitting down.I was now fishing into the wind and it was tough.Picked up a fish on my next peg but i could see a lad Wullie four pegs down from me picking up a lot of fish,5 i think he got off his peg.I knew i was going to be fishing the peg beside where was so was up for it.Best peg of the day for me,4 in the net and offer after offer,Spoke to Wullie at the end of the comp and he said he was getting the same amount of knocks from that area.Problem was getting the flies into the spot. Now i was on 12 fish and the marshall said i was in with maybe a chance of getting through.Had 3 good pulls on the last peg but could`nt hookup. The winner had 16 fish and i was really surprised when Scott announced i had finished second with 12,thought some of the others would have been well by that.So its through to final at the first go!!

Re: Grab a Grand Comp at Tweeddale
Well I had a run up to Tweeddale for the 2nd heat of the Grab a Grand comp with Appetiser, Peter & Tom. Bright and sunny all the way up, but as we arrived a few clouds were starting to come over, not much wind, it looked good. We all drew are pegs and set off to different areas of the lake. My first peg was no12, which was looking from the lodge up the left hand side. Hooter sounded and it wasn't long before rods started to bend down my side of the lake and I managed to land three, phew blank off. Not many fish were getting caught on the Dam wall, which was surprising. My next few pegs didn't produce anything and it wasn't until the last peg before lunch that I hooked and lost right at the net another fish just before hooter went got one more to the net that made 4, but by the looks of all the fish coming out of the left hand side, I must have been well down the field. As I walked off got talking to one of the lads I know up there who was fishing a few pegs up from me who had 9.
Had some of the famous steak pies and a coffee and talked tactics with the lads, Tom had 4 and dropped a couple, Appetiser was just starting to hit fish on his last couple of pegs, but unfortunately Peter hadn't had a touch. After lunch I was on the last peg on the right hand side and then I would be back onto the left hand side again where all the fish seemed to be. First peg got 2, moved round onto right hand side and thought if I can get at least a fish a peg might be ok. Nothing on 2nd peg, Got 1 on next, dropped one at net again on the next nothing on next, 1 on the next, then it was the last peg I had 8 by now, and I new the angler I was talking to had 9 and I couldn't remember him catching any after lunch. Had a couple of soft plucks but I think the fish had gone very shy with all the angling pressure, finally a fish stuck and I got it into the net . Hooter sounded for the end of the comp and the cards were collected. There was an angler called Scott Kettles, who I was following onto his pegs and he was having a tremendous day, he definitely found the method, he caught at least 1 fish per peg in the afternoon and finished 1st with 19 fish, great angling on a difficult day. I was walking down to the lodge when Appetiser came out and said I had qualified, get in. I came joint 2nd with four other anglers all on 9 and we all qualified with five going through to the final. Unfortunately it wasn't to be for Appetiser, Peter or Tom. It was very peggy and where you started had a big bearing on if you got fish or not.
See you in the Final Andy.

Well done Rob, Appetiser, Peter and Tom can always enter another heat if they wish. The guy your on about was Jock Kettles one of the Scottish Internationalists and a very canny rod. There was a total of 130 fish c/r so not really a bad day. Thanks again m8 and well done.
