Sweethope Fishery Report 6th July 2015
Warm weather and increasing water temperatures have resulted in lethargic fish and more difficult angling conditions but visitors to the fishery have still managed a rod average of 2.66.
A violent thunder storm yesterday evening, causing anglers to shelter from the lightning in their cars and previous downpours have freshened things up, lowering the water temperature. Added to a new delivery of trout on Thursday catches and conditions should improve dramatically for visitors this week.
On Wednesday we were visited 7 members of the Northumbria Police Angling Club for a competition which was won by Tony Barclay.
Friday was busy, Eddie Rendles took a fine bag of 3 rainbows, weighing 9lbs 8oz and Nick Dales caught and returned 2 rainbows in the Great Lough, 13 rainbows and 3 blues in the Lower Lough.
Fish of the week was a rainbow taken from the Lower Lough by Stewart Carr, weighing 6lb 5oz.
Statistics:
Fish caught: 216 rainbow, 14 blue and 1 brown trout.
Fish returned safely to the water: 188
Number of visiting anglers: 87
Successful fly patterns:
G.R.H.E., klinkhammer, sedge, black beetle, muddler, dabbler, Kate McClaren, knotted midge, Invicta, hopper.
