help with stillwater tackle

Hi all been absent from the fly fishing scene for a good few years now just packed up sea fishing after 35 years hope i've made the right decision any how i'm going to give fly fishing a good try. would like some help with what tackle i'm best getting for stillwaters around the northeast and yorkshire area with me not being up to date with the latest tackle a bit of help would be appreciated i'm giving myself a budget of £600 for rod reel and line.
never been a fan of grays tackle but any other brands will be taken into consideration

know what you mean , sold all my sea fishing gear 2 years ago , don't miss it . plenty of experience on this site including some who have fished at top level.

Hi there mate,hows about these for tackle suggestions.Ok,so you don`t like Greys,each to their own,though i have to say i use some of their gear,never had any probs.So how about for rods,not 1 rod but 2 Sharpes of Aberdeen Gordon mark2s.For reels Wychwood SLA,again 2.For lines then for me it would be say a Cortland or Shakespeare floater.I`d go for 2 Airflo intermediates,Fastglass and Midglass.I reckon that lot would come in around £600 though if i was buying it all from the one shop i`d be after some kind of discount.All the tackle i`ve mentioned is tackle i`ve used and does the job.I`d be having a look about on the net to see who`s got any deals going,sometimes the likes of Garry Evans,Carrilion etc are worth watching.If you have decent shop local to you then see if they have a casting area where you can try a rod or two out.I`m sure the other lads will each have rods n reels they like and could suggest.All the best and welcome to the forum!

I have been useing a Daiwa Lochmore 7# 10 foot rod and two Dragonfly Disc reels for all my fishing here in the N/east.
One reel has a dt Hardy floater line on it. The other reel has a Cortland Blue Intermediate line on it.
I like a rucksack and a waistcoat to carry my tackle.
These days i like to travel light.
For me the best tackle shop in the N/east is at Jubilee Trout lakes.
I fish the Tees and Wear and i like the wild brown trout reservoirs up in Teesdale. Selset,Ballderhead and Cow Green hold wild brown trout.
