What is a ......

Black Nowt??

Seen a few reports mentioning this fly and would love to know what type of pattern it is!

It's one Dave's own flies.

With all these nowts and snots its easy to get a bit confused!

I am not too sure what a Blob is.If i came across a hatch of Blobs do you think i would get away with fishing the Bibio to represent the Black Nowt. Cos ive not tied nowt for a long time and my box is full of Bibios.

The first one of them i was given was the flou green one.
Ray Hawkey who fished the Teesdale reservoirs told me they were the new kid on the block.
I gave him some of my Bibios in exchange.
The blob never worked for me ,but he told me the bibios were catching him fish at Blackton when it was open.
Ive made flies since useing fritze but i do prefure fur and feather to sythetic.Just me thats all.

Must admit- they're not my first choice but you can't deny they catch fish.
And my reluctance isn't because of purism- I will happily pop a Humungous on where there are wild browns big enough to take it.

I used to tie the montana with fritz when it came out. Claret worked well and the flou-green.
But now i just use cock hackles for the legs.
I got a bollacking of a fellow because i put tails on the blobs that i made for him a few years ago. I had got the dressing from Troutfisherman.
Thankfully the fellow watches cricket now and doesnt bother me. 

3 blobs on a inter is deadly at sharply and on a di5 from the boats at lockwood I personally never tie a tail of marabou in but plenty do or add a brass or coloured bead

its not nothing like a blob its realy a very small black fritz tied in pearl black best hook is a b160very fine fritz then trimed with a nice lump of black marabou with the flashed in the tail trim the fritz at and angle after few cast looks like a streamer only called a nowt cos thats what it is u oh and very small gold bead size one you can gink it up works just as good on the top or on a floater as a point with couple cormerants or wets its drifts well because its light the fine hook of the b160 is the best may not be everyone idea of the best hook but they hold well and ive had fish to 15 and half on them without any give the nowt is what is says nowt some days orange black green black white and so and like every fly there are days u wont get a sniff but black dosnt miss many days bright sunshine in autum on interm line they work very well hope this help no secret was just rubish chucked on a hook and caught loads

They will all be tying the Black Nowt now Dave.
I can see it getting a mention in the Trout mags also.
I remember a fly called The Midnight Cowboy. It got a mention in Trout Fisherman.Dennis Clarkson was the inventor and he was a Northumbria season ticket holder.
He didnt catch fish at midnight, he was watching the film Midnight Cowboy while tying his deadly pattern.
Good job he wasnt watching Carry on Cowboy.
